If you really want to appreciate your health, try losing it for a few years. There’s nothing like the pain of a debilitating disease to make you yearn the warm and fuzzy feeling of a properly functioning and healthy body. Fortunately, there have been great strides in discovering and developing powerful supplements and superfoods to help accelerate your journey to wellness, and these are the ones that saved me from a life of pain and misery.
Astaxanthin
When you’re dealing with some form of illness or disease, there undoubtedly will be inflammation in your body. This will create moderate to severe pain, and will make each day a struggle to stay positive, mobile, and productive.
Astaxanthin (pronounced as-ta-zan-thin) has been found to be one of the strongest natural anti-inflammatory supplements. Although it is not as strong as certain pharmaceuticals, it also does not have any negative side effects.
Additional side benefits of this supplement is it’s strong antioxidant content, and being very beneficial for the eyes, brain, central nervous system, skin, immune system, and sports recovery (I experience little to no stiffness after high intensity workouts, and I attribute much of that to astaxanthin).

Superfood Powders
Another issue people are dealing with in the disease process is malnutrition. If you are experiencing constant pain (not related to a traumatic accident), you will be lacking specific nutrients in order to properly alkalize and mineralize your body and keep it in proper health.

If there was one superfood that I could take to regain my health or simply keep it top notch, it would be wheatgrass.
Wheatgrass is highly oxygenated due to the amount of chlorophyll it contains, which is a requirement for a healthy body. It is also known to contain all the elements required by humans for optimal health, so its an excellent nutritional storehouse that can be fed to your body.
When it comes to overcoming illness, the quality of our blood needs to be addressed. Our blood is carried through all parts of our body and is the delivery mechanism for all the nutrients that are needed by various areas in the body. Wheatgrass rebuilds the blood and helps clean it up so your tissues, muscles, and organs are receiving the best nutrition possible.
Reishi (Medicinal Mushrooms)
It can be overwhelming at times when choosing a supplement. Which one do you need, what’s the quality, and how is it going to work for you are often questions going through your mind.
Well, if you were ever to take one supplement that helps with a variety of conditions and does the “diagnosing” and repair with no knowledge required, Reishi is your herb.
Reishi is a highly adaptogenic and balancing herb, which means that once you put it in your body, it looks to normalize all bodily functions, which in essence creates a healthier body.
Colloidal Silver
One of the primary indicators of our health is our gastrointestinal system. Quite often, it is teeming with bacteria and pathogens that are creating digestive issues and all sorts of health problems.
The challenge with bacteria specifically is that it is often treated in a way that it’s ALL bad, when in fact it’s not. There is good bacteria that is required in our GI system in order for us to properly function, but it all comes down to balance. Unfortunately, hospitals have become “antibiotic happy” and prescribe these medications at the expense of ALL the bacteria in your system.
However, before those times hospitals often used colloidal silver to treat bacteria, fungal, and viral infections. It can also be used as a preventative aid to help rid your body of the bacteria that is probably currently plaguing your body and causing a host of issues.
When used as directed, I find it is one of the safest and most effective supplements for fighting bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. I took colloidal silver for extended periods of time (2 to 4 weeks) and it helped rid my body of several bacterial and fungal infections which were a direct impediment to me regaining my health.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is probably one of the least sexy of the superfoods, but is also critical in allowing the rest to do their job properly.
Apple cider vinegar is rich in enzymes which helps promote healthy bacteria, which in turn helps promote proper digestion. Without proper digestion, food does not get absorbed, remains in the GI tract, and eventually becomes toxic. It’s not hard to believe that digestion is extremely important.
Apple cider vinegar is also very alkalizing, and is a good treatment for raising the pH levels of the body which is paramount in good health.
One of the perhaps less known benefits is it’s ability to rid your body of unhealthy gut biofilm. An unhealthy gut biofilm prevents absorption of nutrients, protects disease causing micro-organisms from the immune system and antibiotics and antifungals, promotes inflammation, and houses toxins like heavy metals.
Apple cider vinegar helps break through this unhealthy biofilm so you can properly absorb the nutrients you are feeding the body, and get at those disease causing microorganisms that are causing you pain and suffering.
I used apple cider vinegar for these very reasons, and it made a tremendous difference in fighting candida and parasitic infections.
Coconut Kefir
Coconut kefir is a little known process of taking water from young thai coconuts and mixing it with a probiotic to create a fermented beverage that is highly beneficial for all digestive disorders and detoxifying the liver.
This process literally changed everything for my gut and liver. Once I learned how to make coconut kefir (it’s incredibly easy) and consumed it every day for 1 week, I started to notice results. These results were compounded and at the end of 6 weeks I felt remarkably better.
Coconut kefir is a living probiotic that helps colonize your gut with friendly bacteria which is required for optimal digestion and balancing your inner ecosystem. Once you are able to do this, your energy and vitality start to change and you begin to realize how digestion is normally at the core of any health issues.
There was certainly many more supplements that aided in my survival, however, the biggest reason for my life turning in a positive direction was my overall lifestyle change, not just the addition of supplements.
