These days, buying any food and shoving it in your mouth is a form of Russian Roulette if you haven’t done in depth research on what you’re about to eat.

It’s crazy, but necessary, to ask yourself these 5 questions before you put anything in your mouth.

1. Is it clean and natural?

Before any food goes in your mouth, you need to understand if it has endured any toxic chemical applications or been genetically modified. If the answer is yes to either, walk away from that food.

Common genetically modified foods to never touch include genetically modified (GMO) corn, soybeans, canola (oil), cotton seed (oil), and sugar beets (AKA white sugar). Most of these genetically modified crops end up on the store shelves as cooking oils, often under the marketing term, “vegetable oils”.

Although it’s not fool proof, choosing either certified organic foods, or foods from farmers or companies who have earned your trust, is important. Nothing beats fresh food from your own garden!

Your vigilance won’t prove to be perfect on this poisoned planet, but it will be exceptionally better than conventional food choices over time, and your improved health will prove it.

2. How was it processed and what’s been added to it?

Just because a food is organic, doesn’t necessarily mean you should put it in your mouth. Often the processing of the food can render it toxic and/or denatured.

Organic enriched flour? Grains processed into dust, stripped of their original nutrient values, with synthetic nutrients put back in.

Organic olive oil? Can be heated to high temperatures with machinery and toxic solvents that taints it. Unfortunately, many olive oils have other genetically modified oils added to it as well, so it’s not as pure as you might think. Know how a good olive oil tastes and you won’t be fooled again.

Bottom line, the heavier the processing, the more you should leave it behind.

3. How nutrient dense is it?

Some foods are more nutrient dense than others, and although variety is important, primarily choose foods on the more nutrient dense side which are typically the foods most people don’t eat.

Generally speaking, these are the brightly coloured fruits and land vegetables, with some sea vegetables worked in as well.

With nutrient deficiencies a common reason for disease, and every day stress and anxiety often depleting them, it’s important to choose nutrient rich foods and make it a habit.

4. Will it eliminate or feed infections?

There are certain foods that can be organic, minimally processed, and nutrient dense, but will feed underlying infections. If you have any health issues, you need to steer clear of these foods until the infection is completely cleared.

For example, eggs, high sugar fruits, and certain starchy foods can feed biological infections like bacteria, parasites, fungus, and viruses, no matter how organic they are.

If you’re dealing with any chronic disease, you have infections. Choose highly anti-infectious food to eliminate those biological infections, and to protect yourself from any future insults.

5. How well will I assimilate (digest) it?

The old saying “you are what you eat” is only half right. A more accurate way to state it is you are what you DIGEST, or properly assimilate.

This means something different to everyone, as it will directly relate to your digestive fire. But if you have endured any type of biological infection, chemical infection, stress, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, bloating, stomach pain, weight gain, joint pain, brain fog, or energy loss…your digestive infrastructure has been hampered.

To improve it, think water dense foods, high in enzymes, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals, and prepared in a way that allows your system to easily break them down. Once you improve your digestion, EVERYTHING starts to change.

Is that a lot to remember? For some, yes. For others who have done their research, this is old hat. But if you want to heal through food, you have to get these 5 things straight. No loopholes or exceptions.

It’s all taught, in my THRIVE Academy.
