The 3 Point Cold and Flu Fighting Regime

For most of us, going through the cold and flu season unscathed is a pipe dream. Many hope to simply get through it without having to be sick for weeks on end, or even worse, ending up in hospital with a prescription for gut destroying antibiotics.

Well, if you are determined to make this a year where you largely avoid these infections, or simply limit their stranglehold on your household, then get this 3 point system in place to give you the absolute best opportunity of getting through the season with limited kleenex, and less chills and hacking.

Cold and Flu Prevention

The first point of protection to avoid being taken down by a cold or flu infection is to balance your immune system so that you have enough power to fight off a bug in the first place! This can be best accomplished by avoiding or severely limiting immune system depressors, as well as adding in nutrients, foods, and herbs that help strengthen in it.

Immune system depressors to avoid or severely limit:

  • Processed sugar
  • White flour and gluten
  • Dairy (especially non-organic)
  • Alcohol
  • Stress
  • Excessive EMFs (from electronics)

In addition to largely avoiding those immune system depressors, you should strongly consider a strong whole foods diet, rich in produce and anti-bacterial properties. Foods to frequently consider include:

  • Low sugar fruit like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries.
  • Vegetables like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, cucumber, garlic, squash, celery, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes. Soups are a great way to incorporate these foods – see some great ones here.

It would also be a great idea to invest in essential oils and a cold diffuser, so you can infuse the air with natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral scents that will uplift your mood as well as destroy many airborne pathogenic microorganisms that may be lurking in your home environment. Oils to consider include lavender, cinnamon, lemon, and chamomile.

Symptoms are starting to set in

If you feel you have been directly exposed to rogue bacteria or you are starting to feel symptoms come on, it is a good idea to naturally remove the bacteria through antibacterial and immune modulating nutrients and herbs, such as:

  • Echinacea
  • Elderberry

  • Ginger (in a tea works nicely)
  • Probiotics

It is also crucial to completely avoid the immune system depressors above, at least until you get the infection knocked out.

Fighting a rooted infection

When a cold or flu has really set in, there are number of natural solutions that will help the body remove symptoms and work at uprooting the infection. These work best if used when symptoms of a cold or flu are settled in, and with the cold and flu prevention strategies mentioned above.

Strong infection fighters to use at this point include:

  • Colloidal silver

When choosing many of these solutions during the cold and flu season, also keep in mind that nutrient dense, warming, and highly digestible foods/beverages are a great overall strategy due to their easy digestibility and keeping your body “burning” at an optimal temperature.
